Such a complicated, tragic figure. His death makes me genuinely sad and also a little relieved. He made a lot of mistakes and did some bad things, but did a lot of good too … in a strange way like the rest of us, except on an intensely enormous, twisted scale.
Bette Midler on Kathy Griffin’s My Life on the D-List

The best moment of last night’s season premier of My Life on the D-List was when this woman “broke the fourth wall” and couldn’t keep her eyes off the camera. Her clueless smile was priceless, one of my favorite reality TV moments ever. You can see it here starting around the three minute mark.
Seems like the general internet consensus about the episode is that Bette was a surprisingly big beyotch. Others think she was just sticking to her slightly scripted “role” in the show. I could see the truth going either way or both ways. It can be kind of faux-reality at times, so it’s hard to tell. Regardless, it was hilarious seeing the two of them together.
I love that Kathy took Bette to the Mermaids Casino as I’ve personally gotten sloshed there once before (although I was unaware of the deep-fried treats at the time, dammit). The cocktail waitresses come around faster than you can handle and are constantly shoving raffle tickets in your hands and forcing you to wear beads for no apparent reason. They make it seem like a good idea to stay. Why is it when you’re drunk in a city you don’t live, beads become some sort of precious gem you MUST have? Anyway, before you know it, you’re $100 poorer because you’ve been feeding video poker machines that are like 10% payout.
It’s good times.
Somebody’s got a case of the Mondays
After four days of scenes like this (action shot!)…

… and this …

… it was rough times at work today.
After a couple nights of city fun, I headed to the woods for country fun. I just got back from a camping trip on Orcas Island where I ate more s’mores than seems humanly possibly (in a group quest for s’more perfection), climbed a steep trail to be rewarded with an amazing view and inhaled a lot of campfire smoke. It was a total blast! Now I’m super sore and longing for another weekend.
